Money Raised Goes to a Good Cause
Several Chilliwack Outdoor clubs will share in $11,000 raised at last October’s 14th annual Around the Lake Give ‘R Take 30 Trail Race. The Chilliwack Outdoor Club, Cascade Off-Road Motorcycle Club, Chilliwack Park Society and Fraser Valley Mountain Bike Association will each Receive $2,000.
“All of these groups have put a major effort to build and maintain trails and will continue to do so,” said race co-founder Clarence Wiens. “we have also set up a $1,000 bursary to be given out by School District No. 33.”
The Chilliwack Track and Field Club receives $1,000 to help them continue training young runners. The race committee has also donated $500 to the local St. John’s Ambulance volunteers who help out on race day.
The popular Chilliwack trail event is sold out every year and relies on 60+ volunteers. Participants choose to run the entire 30 kilometre race or enter two-person relays of 14 and 16km. The 2017 Around the lake Give or Take race celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, introducing new trails in the first half of the race that will make the total distance closer to 30km. This year’s race will be held on October 14th, the first Saturday after Thanksgiving.
