2021 Race Proceeds Handed Out to Local Organizations
Four local outdoor recreation groups and two local high school students will benefit from donations totaling $8,000 handed out recently by the Around the Lake Give ‘R Take 30 Trail Race Society. The Society organizes the annual trail race in October that sees runners traverse approximately 30 kilometres around Cultus Lake, and attracts 300 participants. There are two events during the day—a 30 km solo run and a two-person relay. Proceeds from registrations and sponsorships are generated each year and enable the local trail race to provide cash awards.
Recipients this year (proceeds from October 2021 race) are:
- $3,000 to the Chilliwack Park Society
- $1,000 to the Vedder Mountain Motorcycle Club
- $1,000 to the Chilliwack Outdoor Club
- $1,000 for a Silver Level sponsorship of Fraser Valley Mountain Bikers Association
- $2,000, for two $1,000 scholarships for Chilliwack School District students going onto post-secondary studies.
The 2021 race had a lower registration due to COVID-19 event protocols in place; but organizers are gearing up for a full event of 300 participants in October 2022. This year’s race, the 19th annual, will be held Saturday, October 15, starting and ending at Main Beach, Cultus Lake. Registration opens via this website on June 15.
